2. Your friend had made a plan for you to see a movie together but you cannot join him/her. You’ve found another friend who can go instead of you.

Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:

• Explain why you cannot go anymore

• Say who can go instead of you

Dear Robert,

It was unfortunate that we were unable to connect through Skype the other day, so I decided to send you a letter instead. I have some good news and some terrible news to share with you.

The bad news is that I will be unable to attend this weekend's movie. At the workplace, several important work projects have arrived, and my supervisor has requested me to work extra on the same thing over the weekend. The good news is that you do not have to cancel your movie plans or go alone. I've invited one of my dearest friends, Nancy, to accompany you to the movie. She is a Marvel aficionado. She has previously watched the first two instalments of the Marvels and is ecstatic about the third instalment. I'm quite certain you'll like her company, since she, too, is a Marvel enthusiast.

I hope you understand my position and enjoy your time at the movie with Nancy.

We were unable to communicate with each other through Skype the other day, which is why I decided to write you a letter instead. I have some exciting news to share with you, as well as some sad news.

The bad news is that I will not be able to attend the movie this weekend due to scheduling conflicts. At my place of employment, many significant work projects have come, and my boss has asked me to put in additional hours on the same project over the course of the weekend. However, the good news is that you do not need to cancel your movie reservations or go alone. In order to accompany you to the movie, I've asked one of my closest friends, Nancy, to join me. She is a huge fan of Marvel comics. He or she has already seen the first two Marvel films and is excited about the upcoming third film in the series. Since a fellow Marvel fan, I'm certain that you will enjoy her company, as she is also a Marvel fan.

I hope you understand my position and enjoy your time at the movie with Nancy.

Yesterday, I got a message from my boss. He wanted me to leave for Goa in the evening to attend a very crucial meeting on his behalf. I have made all the arrangements regarding the tour. I am feeling so bad because we made many plans together, but what to do for work is also important. I talked to Sam regarding going to the movie, and he agreed to join you. In fact, he will pick you up from home, and he is a good entertainer as well, with his incredible sense of humour. I am sure that you will have a memorable evening.

I'm very excited about meeting you after a long time, and I know you feel a little sad after hearing this because you have already pre-booked tickets.
