Band 6

The bar charts show data about average years of schooling, employed scientists and technicians, and the investment in the research and development sector, plus they compare the figures of developing countries with industrialised countries between 1980 and 1990.

Regarding average years of schooling, a significant difference can be seen in the number of years spent in school, as it was three times higher in industrialised countries than in developing countries in both years, which stood at above 8 in 1980 and 10 in 1990. Focusing on employment per thousand, the more education, the higher the job opportunities. In 1980, only ten thousand scientists and technicians accounted for emerging nations. There was then a slight increase in the number to just below 20 in 1990. In contrast, in industrialised countries, the number was approximately fourfold and stood at over 40 (1980) and 70 (1990).

Looking at the data on spending money on research and development, $50 US billion was spent by developing countries in 1980, and this amount decreased by half to 25 in 1980, while industrialised countries spent a great amount of money on these sectors.
