Sample Answer

One of the most important festivals in India is Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights. Diwali is celebrated annually in the autumn season, typically in October or November, on the darkest night of the Hindu lunar month of Kartik.

During Diwali, people decorate their homes with lights and rangolis, which are colorful patterns made with coloured powder. They also light diyas, small clay lamps filled with oil, to symbolize the triumph of good over evil and the victory of light over darkness.

On Diwali, my family usually cleans and decorates our house, prepares traditional sweets and snacks, and prays to Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. In the evening, we light diyas and candles, burst firecrackers, and enjoy a special feast with family and friends.

One thing I dislike about Diwali is the pollution caused by firecrackers. Although bursting firecrackers is a common tradition during Diwali, it has a negative impact on the environment and can be harmful to people's health.

Diwali is an important festival in India because it has religious, cultural, and social significance. It is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and some Buddhists to mark different historical events and stories associated with the triumph of good over evil. Diwali also symbolizes the start of a new year and the renewal of life and relationships. Moreover, it is a time for people to come together, share joy and happiness, and spread positivity and kindness.
