Band 7+

The pie charts illustrate the salt, saturated fat, and added sugar content of four typical American daily meals. In general, the dinners and lunches consumed by citizens of the United States of America are high in salt and saturated fats, while their snacks are high in added sugar.

In detail, Americans consume less salt, sugar, and saturated fats during breakfast, roughly 14-16 per cent each time. Consumption of these nutrients is significantly greater at lunch and dinner. Their meal has 29% salt, 26% saturated fats and over 20% sugar. They ingest considerably more significant amounts of these nutrients, which can be detrimental to health if consumed in excess when they heave their meals. They consume 43% salt, 37% saturated fat, and 23% sugar at supper, respectively. Finally, the snacks they consume include a high concentration of sugar and fat (42% and 21%, respectively), and their sugar intake is larger than that of supper and lunch.

Band 7

The figure illustrates the percentage of different nutrients consumed in each meal and snack in the United States of America. Overall, salt and saturated fat account for the majority of dietary consumption, whereas added sugar accounts for the least.

While the amount of salt in breakfast and snacks is 14 per cent, the amount of saturated fat in breakfast and lunch is 21 per cent and 16 per cent, respectively. More salt (43 per cent) is consumed during dinner than saturated fat (37 per cent). During lunch, the sodium level is 29%, while the saturated fat amount is 26%.

If we look at the amount of added sugar, snacks account for 42 per cent of total sugar intake, whereas breakfast accounts for 16 per cent. One thing to note is that during dinner, the percentage of extra sugar is 23 per cent. Surprisingly, fewer than 20% of the calories come from added sugar.

Band 6

The chart gives data about the proportion of various nutrients people consume in each meal and snack in the USA.

Regarding Breakfast and Lunch, the percentage of daily intake of sodium in the breakfast and snacks is 14%; however, the proportion of saturated fat in the breakfast and lunch increases and reaches 21% and 16%, respectively. More sodium (43%) is consumed at the time of dinner than saturated fat (37%). The actual proportion of sodium at lunch is 29%, while the number decreases, reaching a low of 26% for saturated fat.

Turning to added sugar, 42%, being the highest in proportion, is for snacks, whereas, 16%, being the lowest, is for breakfast. Notably, the figure for added sugar at the time of dinner stands at 23%. Interestingly, less than 20% sugar is added to the lunch.

In summary, it can be seen that sodium and saturated fat make up the highest proportion of intake, while added sugar makes up the lowest proportion.
