     Sample Answer 1

The presented graphs provide information about the production of electricity from different energy sources in Australia and France in 1980 and 2000.

In terms of electricity production in Australia, coal accounted for the highest contribution, generating 50 units of electricity, which was equal to the combined production from hydropower (20 units), natural gas (20 units), and oil (10 units) in 1980. The total electricity production units reached 100 in 1980 and surged to 170 in 2000. The production from coal power stood at 130 units, surpassing other power sources by 90 units in 2000.

Turning to France, electricity units produced from coal and natural gas amounted to 25 units each, making them the highest contributors, while hydropower accounted for the lowest at 5 units in 1980. The production of electricity from oil stood at 20 units, which was 5 units more than that from nuclear power (15 units) in 1980. In 2000, the production of electricity from nuclear power reached 126 units, surpassing oil (25 units), coal (25 units), natural gas (2 units), and hydropower (2 units) by 72 units and remained the highest. In 2000, the figures for electricity units doubled compared to 1980.

In summary, we can see that the figures for electricity generation in both Australia and France experienced a significant increase in the given period.

Band 7

The presented graphs provide information about how many electricity units were produced from different sources of energy in Australia and France in 1980 and 2000.

In terms of electricity production in Australia, 50 units of electricity were generated by coal, which was the highest and equalled to other sources of energy such as hydropower (20), natural gas (20) and oil (10), collectively in 1980. Electricity production units totalled 100 in 1980, before surging to 170 in 2000. The figures for coal power stood at 130 units, which outnumbered other power sources by 90 units in 2000.

Turning to France, electricity units produced by coal and natural gas amounted to 25, respectively, which made up the highest contribution, while hydropower was the lowest (5) in 1980. The figures for electricity production by oil stood at 20 units, which was 5 units more than that of nuclear power (15) in 1980. In 2000, the production of electricity from nuclear power totalled 126 units, surpassing oil (25), coal (25), natural gas (2) and hydropower (2) by 72 units and remained the highest in 2000. In 2000, the figures for electricity units increased two times more than the 1980 figures.

To sum up, we can see that the figures for electricity generation in both Australia and France surged in the given period.

Band 6.5

The pie charts illustrate the number of electricity units produced by different sources in Australia and France in 1980 and 2000. Overall, it can be seen that coal was the major source of electricity production in Australia, whereas nuclear power was the major source in France.

In Australia, about 50 units were produced by coal in 1980, which surged to 130 units in 2000. The number of units produced by natural gas and oil stood at 20 and 10, respectively, in 1980, which followed a significant downward trend, reaching 2 units each in 2000. The proportion of units generated by hydropower increased from 20 units in 1980 to 36 units in 2000.

In France, the use of coal remained constant in both years, at 25 units. There was a dramatic climb in units produced by nuclear power from 15 units in 1980 to 126 units in 2000. Hydropower and natural gas use declined to only 2 units. However, the use of oil rocketed by 5 per cent in 2000.
