76. Air traffic is increasingly leading to more noise, pollution and airport construction. One reason for this is the growth in low-cost passenger flights, often to holiday destinations. Some people might say that governments should try to reduce air traffic by taxing it more heavily.

BAND 7

Without a doubt, the last 15 years have witnessed a greater rise in the level of pollution than in the preceding 30 years. Nowadays, increasing travel by air leads to more noise pollution. One of the reasons is that the number of travellers surges due to convenient and budget-friendly flights. Hence, some individuals think that the solution to the problem is to impose heavy taxes. The essay will discuss the solid argument in the upcoming paragraphs, along with my opinion.

Indeed, imposing high taxes has numerous upsides. One of the most significant positives is reducing the number of air travellers. To put it another way, people might cancel their holiday plans if the government charges taxes in terms of saving the environment. Moreover, the government can utilise the amount of tax in environmental-conserving plans. According to a survey conducted by the Times of India, the government of India has imposed a "Forestation Tax" on foreign travellers, and it is used for forest-conservation projects, such as "Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve" (NDBR) in Uttrakhand and "Gir Forest" (GF) in Gujarat.

On the other hand, taxation is not the only solution to reducing air pollution or saving the environment. There are several solutions to reduce air pollution. One of them is planting more trees, called "reforestation". In other words, industrialization, especially tourism, has deteriorated many natural resources, like forest regions, for constructing new hotels and resorts. Obviously, this helps in boosting the economy of countries; however, it also leads to various types of pollution, mainly air. There is no denying the fact that natural resources are depleting at an alarming rate. Therefore, people should plant more and more trees to conserve the environment and breathe good-quality air.

To conclude, it seems to me that taxation is not an appropriate method for controlling noise and air pollution. I believe that reforestation might be a perfect solution to deal with the issue.
