Band 7+

14. At the present time, the population of some countries includes a relatively large no. of young adults compared with the no. of older people.

Do the advantages of this situation outweigh the disadvantages?

Sample Answer 1

In some nations, the proportion of youthful adults to older individuals is disproportionately high. This essay will examine the benefits and drawbacks of this situation.

Their potential contribution to the labour force is an advantage of a population with a higher proportion of youthful adults. Younger individuals frequently possess vitality, zeal, and novel concepts, which can stimulate economic expansion and innovation. They can boost productivity, cover gaps in the labour market, and contribute to the growth of industries and national prosperity.

Moreover, a larger population of youthful adults can increase the potential for societal advancement. They are more likely to adopt new technologies, challenge existing norms, and promote social transformation. Their dynamism can result in a vibrant culture, innovation, and the emergence of fresh ideas and perspectives.

However, there are also disadvantages to an age structure that is unbalanced. The burden it places on social welfare systems and healthcare services is a significant obstacle. With an ageing population, the demand for healthcare and retirement benefits rises, potentially depleting a country's resources. Moreover, a lack of intergenerational balance may result in a widening generation divide, affecting social cohesion and causing societal issues.

The advantages of a population with a larger proportion of youthful adults outweigh the disadvantages, in my opinion. Their vitality, inventiveness, and economic potential can propel progress and development. To ensure the sustainability of social welfare systems and intergenerational harmony, however, it is essential for governments to plan and implement policies that address the challenges associated with an ageing population.

Conclusion: a population with a relatively high proportion of young individuals offers benefits in terms of workforce participation, innovation, and societal advancement. Nonetheless, the challenges of an ageing population must be recognised and effectively managed through the implementation of appropriate policies and social support systems.

BAND 6.5

There is little room for doubt that the need for youngsters to boost the country's economy is paramount. In many countries, the population of young adults is higher than that of elderly people, and this has umpteen advantages.

First and foremost, youngsters are more active and energetic. They adapt easily to the environment and other people. Unlike the elderly, who suffer from various health problems and need special care. Thus, business organisations intend to employ adults instead of the elderly. In addition to this, in the cutting-edge technological era, older people find it difficult to cope with technology. However, adults are familiar with technological advancements. Young people are more creative, and they also help a company to expand to a global level. For example, a recent survey has shown that a company which employs maximum youngsters is more technologically advanced.

Despite its advantages, it has some drawbacks. Firstly, youngsters are not mature enough. Sometimes, they are not able to make the right decisions that may lead to a huge loss. Hence, elderly people also play a vital role because they have past experience. They pass through various stages, so they know how to deal with problems. Moreover, they are more skilled, since they have been working for so long. Also, they pass traditional methods and strategies to the younger generation so that they can use them when required.

In conclusion, it seems to me that a large number of youngsters has many advantages because they are more active, energetic, and easily adaptable to people and technology.
