The graphs illustrate the main motivations for studying among students of different age groups and the extent to which they receive assistance from working professionals.

According to the age of students, 80 percent of pupils under the age of 26 choose to study for a profession, which is more than eight times the rate of those who study for enjoyment. Students pursuing careers make up 68 percent of the student population, while those studying for enjoyment account for just 15 percent of the 26-29 age group. In the 40-49 age group, the proportions of both types of students remain constant. Students studying for enjoyment reach a high of 70 percent, while those studying for a livelihood drop to 18 percent beyond the age of 49.

Employer support in terms of time off and assistance with fees decreases from 70 percent for students under the age of 26 to 50 percent for those between the ages of 26 and 29, and finally to 35 percent for those aged 40-49, the lowest figure. The over-49 age group has 45 percent employer support, which is 11 percent more than the 40-49 age group.

In conclusion, we can observe that as students' ages increase, the trend of motivations for studying and the level of assistance from professionals reverses.

Band 6.5

The charts give information about the causes of studying either for a career or for an interest in students of different age groups, plus the support they get from workers.

Regarding studies for careers, there is a downward trend. However, it goes up with age for students who study for interest. We can see that students younger than 26 pursue career courses mainly, and very few students are studying for interest. Students aged 49 and older are mainly interested in hobby courses (70%) and very few students take admission in career courses (18%).

Turning to employer support, it is a downward trend. Their support varies with the students’ age group. Their support is maximum for pupils younger than 26, which is 65%. After that, it started decreasing, 40% for 30-39 years old before rising to 45% for 49 years old and older.

Overall, it can be seen that students younger than 39 years old are mainly interested in career courses. However, if we talk about older students, they are interested in entertainment courses compared to career courses. The proportion of employer support decreases in line with the percentage of students for career courses up to the age of 39 years. After that, it increases with interest course proportion.
