68. It is now possible for scientists and tourists to travel to remote natural environment, such as the South Pole.

Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

Sample Answer 1

BAND 6.5

There is no doubting the fact that the need to travel to distant places to get away from daily routine life is paramount. Thus, it gives a sense of freshness and peace, whereas it is very expensive. While there are strong arguments for and against it, I believe that its disadvantages outweigh the advantages.

Indeed, spending money on travel to a remote natural environment has several upsides. The major one is that learning about new species and creatures on the earth causes a significant amount of knowledge about the area and the animals. Added to this, such types of trips are full of excitement and adventure. For example, if a scientist or a tourist visits the South Pole or the Amazon Jungle, they may learn about the survival skills and natural habitats of the animals that live there, such as Polar Bears, Seals, Penguins and Trout fish. Moreover, visiting tranquil places is a unique and healthy journey, as due to heavy workload, humans get frustrated very quickly, so it is beneficial to re-energise the mind and the body so that everybody can perform well in their academic and social life.

Despite having many pros, there are many downsides, too. Firstly, it causes many health issues. Travel to remote areas results in sudden illness and many diseases such as hypothermia and diarrhoea because our bodies are not familiar with the environment of the area. Secondly, such trips are very expensive and are not affordable for the poor. Furthermore, it is environmentally unhealthy, since humans do illegal hunting of natural habitats for experiments and their survival.

In conclusion, having strong and effective views on both sides of the case, it seems to me that its disadvantages are more as compared to its advantages due to its affordability and adverse effect on the environment.
