While some argue that the high salaries of professional athletes are completely justifiable, others believe that they are unfair. Both viewpoints have merit, but I lean towards the position that the current income disparity is disproportionate and calls for a more equitable distribution of wealth.
Those who believe that the high salaries of sports professionals are justifiable argue that their salaries reflect the value they contribute to society. Ticket sales, broadcasting rights, sponsorships, and merchandise sales generate significant revenue for professional sports, especially in popular disciplines. Successful athletes become influential figures, attracting followers and stimulating economic activity within their respective sports. The high salaries are compensation for their exceptional abilities, hard work, and commitment, as well as the entertainment they provide to millions of people around the globe. There is little doubt that the last 15 years have seen a greater rise in income for athletes than the previous 50. According to some, this is the appropriate method of increasing athlete pay. Others think that it is illogical in the perspective of other specialists. My essay often returns to each of these viewpoints.
Certainly, there are many rationales for generously rewarding athletes. One of their most distinctive characteristics is their uncanny ability to do any task without fear or hesitation in front of the cameras. Additionally, they are very skilled people that bring national recognition, which means they have a large fan following, which makes them an excellent choice for marketing a new product. According to a survey conducted by the Times of India, 70% of advertising companies employ sportsmen for promotions due to their pleasant and calm demeanour; furthermore, they perform well under pressure.
On the other hand, some professions, such as teachers and doctors, are essential to the well-being of everyone. There is no disputing that sports professionals serve as ambassadors for their respective countries. In other words, they compete in and win world-level competitions on behalf of their nations, as well as themselves. They train diligently before competitions to improve their physical and mental health in order to perform effectively during sporting events. They should be rewarded financially as well as with medals after winning tournaments for their devotion and commitment to their sports. Additionally, well-known athletes make money via advertising.
