Sample Answer 1

BAND 6.5

There is little room for doubt that the need for space exploration to find out the past and the future of our planet earth is paramount. Spending such a proportion of the government’s budget on space research is controversial, as there are solid arguments for and against it.

Indeed, there are numerous upsides to conducting space research. One significant benefit is finding new alternatives to survive, meaning that pollution has become one of the major problems which can be tackled with the help of finding new resources to live. The second positive is that fossil fuels like petrol and diesel take millions of years to make, and they deteriorate with every passing day. So, scientists want to find more renewable energy in order to live on the earth. That is why the government spends money on space exploration. Moreover, scientists want to expand their knowledge in this modern era and have good relations with other countries. So, they prefer to utilize their money on space programmes.

Despite the advantages, there are numerous drawbacks to spending money on space research. One essential is that it is a long process, and the government has to spend more money on making spacecraft, which directly affects their budget. Nowadays, in underdeveloped areas, people are deprived of basic facilities such as food, shelter and clothes, which is unquestionably detrimental to the growth and development of a nation. If the government spends its money on providing rudimentary facilities, it may be beneficial to become a civilized member of society.

To conclude, it seems to me that spending money on space research is essential for the planet earth, with the advantages of making strong relations with other countries.
